Anna Meares Appointed as Chef de Mission for Paris 2024 Olympics

Two-time Gold Medallist and Most Decorated Track Cyclist to Guide Team in France
Anna Meares, Australia's most decorated Olympic cyclist, will lead the Australian Olympic Team as Chef de Mission for the Paris 2024 Games. The appointment was announced by the Australian Olympic Committee on Tuesday, making Meares the first woman to hold the prestigious role.
"I am incredibly honored and humbled to be appointed as Chef de Mission," Meares said. "Leading the Australian Olympic Team is a dream come true, and I'm excited to work with our athletes and support staff to achieve our goals in Paris."
Meares retired from competitive cycling in 2016 after a successful career that saw her win six Olympic medals, including two golds in the team pursuit and individual sprint. She is also the most successful female track cyclist in the history of the UCI World Championships with 11 gold medals.
"Anna Meares is a true Australian sporting icon," said Ian Chesterman, CEO of the Australian Olympic Committee. "Her passion for the Olympic movement, her leadership skills, and her unwavering determination make her the perfect person to lead our team in Paris."
Meares will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Australian Olympic Team's preparation and performance at the 2024 Games. She will work closely with athletes, coaches, and support staff to create a high-performance environment and ensure the team's success.
