Penn State’s Redshirt Sophomore Quarterback Adds to Nittany Lions Advantage With Early Third Quarter Touchdown
Penn State redshirt sophomore quarterback Lamar Allar extended the Nittany Lions’ lead over Central Michigan with a 5-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter Saturday at Beaver Stadium.
Allar’s touchdown run capped a nine-play, 70-yard drive for Penn State, which took a 21-0 lead with 12:04 remaining in the third quarter.
The Nittany Lions drove into Central Michigan territory on their first possession of the second half, but were forced to punt after reaching the Chippewas’ 43-yard line.
Central Michigan then went three-and-out and punted the ball back to Penn State, which took over at its own 30-yard line.
Allar completed a 12-yard pass to KeAndre Lambert-Smith on the first play of the drive, and then hit Theo Johnson for a 13-yard gain on the next play.
After a 1-yard run by Kaytron Allen, Allar scrambled for 11 yards to the Central Michigan 23-yard line.
Allen carried the ball for 4 yards on the next play, and then Allar ran for 7 yards to the 12-yard line.
After an incomplete pass, Allar ran for 5 yards to the end zone for the touchdown.
Allar’s touchdown run was his first of the season and the second of his career.
The Nittany Lions improved to 2-0 with the win, while Central Michigan fell to 0-2.
